Swissvale Music Racing Team

UPDATE!:

Gary has won his first race of 2007, claiming the checkered flag for Swissvale Music. Here is an excerpt from motordrome.com:

For 17 laps of the Lincoln Welders Modified feature, veteran Gary Scott was ahead of the field without a challenger in sight. Scott started on the pole for the 20-lap event, with his protégé, Ben Easler, sharing the front row. On lap six, Tom Frank took second place from Easler after starting fifth. At the midpoint of the event, twelfth-starting Adam Kostelnik stole the runner-up position from Frank. Scott continued to “check out,” maintaining a lead of nearly a straightaway. But, a caution flag on lap 18 set up late race drama, allowing Kostelnik, the two-time winner, to restart on Scott’s rear bumper. After managing his tire wear from the wave of the green flag, Scott held on to earn his first win of 2007.

In 2010 Gary has racked up two feature wins, both with Gary leading all 25 laps.

Gary Wins

Gary Scott has been racing since the early '70's. Beginning with Motorcross, continuing on to go-carts and micro-sprints, and from there on to stock cars. Dirt modified in the late '90's and asphalt modified throughout the '00's.

Currently, Gary races in the Nascar-sanctioned Dodge Weekly Racing Series, formerly the Winston series before Winston split from Nascar and Dodge took over. As of September 15th, the season ended on a rain-out, which forced Gary to take second place for the year. The next season will begin in April of 2007.

Until then, here's Gary's racing profile from an interview for the Pittsburgh Trib:

The Number 16 Car

Division: Modified
Car: Modified Lefthander/ J-Yerd
Age: 55
Residence: Harrison City
Height: 5'8
Weight: 185 lbs
Occupation: Swissvale Music
Notables: 18 feature wins; two 2nd place Motordrome Modified Championship finishes; two 3rd place Motordrome Modified Championship finishes; 30+ Heat Race Wins
Why he started racing: "My father raced in the '50s, since I was a little boy, so I guess it's kind of like a family thing."
Challenges: "Last year, we wiped out the car in July ... After the accident, we had to sit out the rest of the season, because we'd just bought a house ... It's very expensive when you have a wreck ... Cars can cost anywhere from $8,000 to $20,000. Local guys can spend between $8,000 and $60,000 and more actually. Some of the Late Model guys can spend upwards of $100,000 ... If you win almost every week, you still lose money."
Why he's stayed in it: "The camaraderie of the crew ... It's like a family. It's not like stick and ball sports where it's all ego ... The championship is always kind of like a dangling carrot ... I have a garage full of trophies and I can look at almost every single one and say when I got it, how I got it ... The trophies are at least something you can put on your shelf and give to your kids."
